Amanda Bossard graduated from high school in 1992. She then began her studies in marine science at Alaska Pacific University, Anchorage. Bossard started her commercial seafood career in 1999 when she began working on the ship F/V Sunset. The 65' schooner converted to an ice-fish tender was operated by Murat Aritan. The fisherman has been in commercial fishing since 1993. Bossard and Aritan are now married and have joined forces to stake their claim to their respective industries. Both are advocates of conserving and maximizing the use of sustainable resources within the fishing industry. In 2007, she became a mother to two kids Bella age 3 and Andre 1 Bossard before returning to her home in Philadelphia, opened a direct wholesale distribution of seafood named Otolith. She and her husband are separated by five months, and she is able to concentrate on her financial goals and environmental concerns. Bossard together with Isabella and Andre (ages 10 and 12 respectively) return each year, from July to August, to Southeast Alaska for the summer catch of wild salmon. The two-month period is when Bossard and Isabella use hooks & lines to hunt for the salmon they want to catch. Aritan will then sell their seafood for processing locally.
